Local Imaging Center Achieves Accreditation
for its CT Program
ST. LOUIS, August 8, 2008 -- South County Imaging Center has achieved
a three-year accreditation for its computed tomography (CT) program
from the American College of Radiology (ACR).
ACR accreditation means
that the private, diagnostic imaging center, located at 12345 West
Bend Drive, meets or exceeds nationally accepted standards of care
for CT imaging.
A CT scan is a noninvasive, painless
medical test that uses a small amount of radiation, and provides
detailed images of structures in the body.
South County Imaging Center achieved accreditation
following a rigorous peer-review examination of the practice, its
CT procedures, images and equipment by independent board-certified
radiologists and medical physicists. The certification exam also
evaluated the center’s
quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
The imaging
center voluntarily sought ACR accreditation, which will expire in
May 2011. By 2012, however, providers of advanced imaging services
that participate in Medicare must be accredited for reimbursement.
This includes CT.
South County Imaging Center provides a
wide range of radiology services to residents and healthcare providers
in South St. Louis and Jefferson counties in Missouri, and
Monroe and St. Clair counties in Illinois. The $3.5 million center
opened in June 2007 and is owned by a group of private investors.
